This is the segment we "stole" from No Country for Old Man opening scene.
A fairly muted look here. Had to modify the intended look after the tech scout. The roof outside window is way too low for a “high angle sun beam” look. So I had the curtain fully cover the window, so an evenly diffused light was the only light source. Some neg was used in the close up shot. Smoke and hollywood blackmagic filter was applied in this scene, combined with the old Cineovision lens, a soft look was created.
This is a spare room in school. We divide the room into two section with the camera line of site, with the grey area disguised. Art department set a long green nursing curtain to confine the area and gave the room a "constricted" feeling, containing the atmosphere. I had the art dir. to hang a specific curtain on the lower window(as you can see in the right side picture), which is ideal in color and texture. Leaving the upper window clean allows the different quality of light to shine through. Also they painted the wall into light green that evoked some kind of awkwardness in these scenes.
We had two scenes of day/interior and one scene of night interior. It was just a simple lighting change without others being moved.
Both night and day scene were added a ample of smoke, combined with the practicals and soft light.
